Daytona Rising project underway at Daytona International Speedway

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — During the last month, Daytona International Speedway continued to move forward with the $400 million Daytona Rising redevelopment project.

President of the Daytona International Speedway Joie Chitwood said, "It's like motor sports, you have to keep your foot on the gas, you got to go fast, and we are going to get there."

The $400 million redevelopment project has already begun to take shape, and with the 2016 deadline closing in, the project is quickly approaching completion.

"More steel. We've added more escalators, we've added more seats," Chitwood said.

Officials want spectators to be able to see every turn, every straightaway and every car on the track.

"The higher seats are the better seats, because when cars are going 200 mph that first row of the grand stand you can't really see them, they are going so fast. Up here you can see everything," Chitwood said.

Daytona International Speedway will have 101,000 additional seats, twice as many restrooms and three times as many concession stands, but according to Chitwood fans will not have to wait until 2016 to experience the new additions. They will be able to get a preview next year.

"2015 is that sneak preview for our fans to understand what's coming. So, it is a little bit of finding the present early before Christmas, peeking at it, but then we are going to put the wrapper back on it and get ready," Chitwood said.
