FHP: Man, 43, dies in traffic crash near DeLand

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — State troopers are investigating a deadly crash in Volusia County.

It happened around 2 a.m. Friday along Spring Garden Avenue in DeLand, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Channel 9 has been near the crash scene for several hours.

As of 7 a.m., Spring Garden Avenue (State Road 15A) remained closed in both directions north of State Road 44.

FHP said the driver of a Toyota Camry died in the crash.

According to troopers, he was traveling northbound on Spring Garden Avenue when he lost control of the car, traveled off the roadway, and struck a railroad crossing gate arm support pole.

FHP said the driver, 43, resided in Orange City.
