The Florida Highway Patrol said it happened just before 2 a.m. along State Road 40, east State Road 326, in Silver Springs.
The crash involved a car and an SUV.
Investigators said the car was traveling westbound on SR-40 when its driver crossed the center line at a curve in the road and collided head-on with the eastbound SUV.
Troopers said the car then caught fire and the driver died at the crash site. At last report, investigators said they were working to positively identify that person.
The SUV’s driver was rushed to a hospital but also died.
FHP did not release her name but said she was a resident of Silver Springs, age 43.
State troopers closed SR-40 in both directions to investigate the crash. The road reopened shortly before 6:30 a.m.
