DELAND, Fla. — DeLand police still need help solving a suspected hit-and-run case that left a man dead in the street.
It’s been a month since the crash, but police released the victim’s name Monday.
Jesus Del Valle, 38, was found dead neat the intersection of Clara and Michigan avenues on May 21.
Investigators still aren’t sure if the man died because of the crash, or if he was in the road, already dead.
Police said a man delivering newspapers found Del Valle’s body in the road at about 5 a.m.
They believe his body had been dragged for 50 feet by a vehicle, but they haven’t been able to confirm if Del Valle’s was hit and killed by the driver, or if he was already dead before the crash.
Del Valle was from Puerto Rico, and his body has been sent back to his family on the island.
Before the Medical Examiner’s Office released his body, they examined it and ran tests.
The police department is waiting on some of those test results.
A police spokesperson could not say if the victim was living in DeLand, working or visiting, and there is no suspected vehicle description.
Police are still asking for the community’s help with any information someone might have about what happened to Del Valle.
