DELAND, Fla. — A 27-year-old woman is facing felony charges after DeLand police said she slammed another woman head-first onto a roadway during a fight, leaving the woman critically injured.
Tishana A. Anglade was arrested Tuesday on charges of aggravated battery causing bodily harm or disability and resisting an officer without violence, according to a DeLand Police Department arrest affidavit.
Police said officers were called to the area of East Rich Avenue and North Boston Avenue shortly before 3 p.m. for a reported fight.
An officer wrote that he arrived to find Anglade and another woman actively fighting in the intersection. As another uniformed officer approached, police said Anglade lifted the woman and slammed her head and neck first onto the asphalt.
The officer said the woman then appeared to suffer a seizure.
Police said Anglade ran toward a nearby scooter and attempted to leave. An officer repeatedly ordered her to stop and warned that she would be stunned with a Taser before Anglade stopped and got onto the ground, according to the affidavit.
Woman hospitalized in critical condition
The woman remained unconscious but was breathing when emergency crews arrived, police said.
Volusia County EMS transported her to Halifax Health as a trauma alert. Hospital staff later told investigators that she was intubated and in critical condition, according to the affidavit. Her condition had not changed when officers checked again Tuesday evening.
The woman’s name is withheld in the arrest affidavit under Marsy’s Law.
Anglade tells police other woman attacked first
After being read her Miranda rights, Anglade told investigators she and the other woman had been having problems with each other.
Anglade told police the other woman indicated she wanted to fight. Anglade said she initially left the area before returning to “see whats up,” according to the affidavit.
She told investigators the other woman then attacked her and began punching her in the face. Police said Anglade claimed officers should have seen that the other woman was attacking her when they arrived.
Police ultimately arrested Anglade because of the severity of the woman’s injuries and because investigators said she attempted to flee when officers arrived.
