Delta flight from OIA has close call with drone

ORLANDO, Fla. — A Delta Airlines plane heading from Orlando International Airport to New York’s JFK International Airport had a close call with a drone Friday, said an official with the airline and the Federal Aviation Administration.

The crew reported an airborne object near the path to the runway at JFK.

The MD-88 plane, which had 159 people on board, was able to land safely.

The drone was reported to be 100 feet from the plane.

The FAA said the plane was 1,700 feet from the runway when the drone was spotted.

The pilot did not take any evasive action.
