ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — State Representative Scott Randolph will take Earl K. Wood's spot on the Nov. ballot in the race for Orange County tax collector.
Wood, who had served as tax collector since 1964, died on Monday of natural causes.
Scott, who has served as a state representative since 2006, was selected by the Orange County Democratic Executive Committee in a Wednesday night meeting.
Because it is too late to change names on ballots, Wood's name will still appear on the ballot, and Scott will receive votes already cast for Wood on absentee ballots.
Scott will face Republican candidate Jim Huckeba in the Nov. 6 election.
In a press release sent out following the announcement of Scott as the new Democratic candidate, Huckeba's campaign said, "Orange County Democrats played party politics in choosing Scott Randolph to replace Earl K. Wood as their nominee for tax collector."
