Autopsy results pending in death of woman found in Lake County

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 29-year-old woman who was found in a rural part of the county, but few details have been released to the public.

The body of April Mullins was found Tuesday evening in a ditch off Forest Drive near State Road 44. Mullins was a DeLand resident and had not been seen since Nov. 25.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that an autopsy had been completed in the case, but the results were not yet available.

A cause of death has not been released, and authorities have not said if they think Mullins died at the site or if she was killed elsewhere and her body was dumped there.

"The fact that she was found in a ditch just inside our county, I mean, obviously the circumstances are suspicious. So detectives just want to learn as much as possible about her recent whereabouts and people whom she was with recently," Lt. John Herrell of the Lake County Sheriff's Office said.

Residents of the neighborhood where Mullins lived said the woman was well liked. They said they were devastated by the news of her death.
