Neighbor Patrick Laumer spoke with the homeowners Wednesday and said they were terrified by the experience.

"You could just kind of see the fear on their faces and you don't want that anywhere you move," he said.

Laumer realized his vehicle had been burglarized, but investigators did not know if that incident was connected with the home burglary.

This type of thing is very unusual in the neighborhood, Laumer said.

"It feels like a safe place," he said. "We don't have to, you know, worry about them out in the neighborhood until something like this."

Scott agreed, saying he couldn't believe the house where his daughter lived for more than two decades would be targeted by burglars.

"It's very, very rare that anything happens in our neighborhood," he said.

The homeowners did not want to comment on the incident, but told Channel 9 that they were all physically OK.
