OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — A man that was extradited to Osceola County to face charges that he killed his wife and daughter's boyfriend has been hospitalized for unknown reasons.
55-year-old Kevin Satterfield did not make it to his first appearance at the Osceola County jail on Sunday because he is in the hospital, according to the judge presiding over the first appearances.
The judge said that Satterfield's first appearance would be rescheduled, pending his release from the hospital. Officials have not said why he was taken to the hospital.
Satterfield is now facing charges of first degree murder and attempted murder, according to the Osceola County Sheriff's Office. He was booked into the Osceola County jail Saturday morning.
Authorities had a felony warrant out for Satterfield's arrest for his involvement in the death of his 53-year-old wife, Vicki Satterfield, and his daughter's boyfriend.
The pair was found shot to death inside a home on Coral Reef Circle by Osceola County deputies at about 12:47 a.m. on May 1, after responding to an armed disturbance.
"I just heard three shots; sounded like they were coming from that direction. Twenty to thirty minutes later, I saw all the police and a lot of commotion going on," said neighbor Rachel Munoz.
Friends who know Satterfield described him to WFTV as a devoted father, grandfather and husband to his wife, whom he was married to for more than 25 years.
"When it came to anniversaries and stuff, he would always send Vickie flowers. I just don't know what caused all this to happen," said friend Liz Kieffer.
A source said the violence began with screams coming from a bedroom in the home.
Police said Satterfield shot and killed his wife, and then turned the gun on his pregnant daughter, 21-year-old Heather Satterfield, and her boyfriend Christian Martinez, 27.
Martinez did not survive.
Heather Satterfield was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
"Kevin and Vicki both cherished Heather. She was a good girl. They took care of her," said Kieffer.
A source told WFTV that as Satterfield sped from his home, he called his mother and told her something bad had happened.
Officials say Satterfield was located and arrested at a motel in Opelousas, Louisiana after family members provided information about his location.
