LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Walt Disney World cast members collected more than 155,000 school supplies this summer to help Central Florida teachers and students start the new school year.
The donations are part of Disney’s annual Back-to-School Supply Drive supporting A Gift For Teaching.
With this year’s collection, Disney said it has donated more than 1 million school supplies through the annual drive over the past decade.
The supplies will help stock classrooms and support teachers and students in Orange, Osceola, Lake, Seminole and Polk counties.
Disney VoluntEARS gathered on Thursday to count and sort the donated supplies.
“We’re committed to removing barriers to learning by ensuring teachers and students have free access to the supplies they need to succeed,” A Gift For Teaching President Jane Thompson said.
Disney said it has supported A Gift For Teaching since the nonprofit was founded nearly 30 years ago.
The company also invested $1.3 million in Central Florida education programs at the beginning of the summer, benefiting five local school districts and organizations supporting education.
