LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — The Disney Conservation Fund announced a $1 million investment in Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots program as young conservation leaders from across the country gathered at Walt Disney World.
Disney said the investment will support Roots & Shoots, a Jane Goodall Institute program that helps young people take action on issues involving animals, people and the environment.
The announcement came as 10 young conservation leaders participated in a multi-day summit at Walt Disney World Resort.
Disney said the participants took part in experiences at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and EPCOT, where they worked with experts in animal care, veterinary science and conservation.
Each participant was also paired with a Disney mentor who will serve as a career and education coach over the next year, according to Disney.
One of the 10 participants, Shea Polley of Florida, was recognized for work involving sea turtle conservation and environmental education.
Disney said the young conservationists also received grants to support their individual projects.
The latest $1 million investment brings Disney’s total support for Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots to more than $7.5 million.
