Disney World to open new animation experience at Hollywood Studios on Sept. 14

The new attraction will celebrate over one hundred years of history through interactive art displays

ORLANDO, Fla. — Walt Disney World is celebrating more than 100 years of animation with a new experience at Hollywood Studios.

The Magic of Disney Animation, located in Animation Courtyard, is inspired by Disney’s 2023 short film, “Once Upon a Studio.”

The redesigned area will feature interactive art displays, character meet-and-greets and a studio where guests can learn how to draw different Disney characters.

“We wanted to use the advantage of technology and a new kind of more interactive way of playing to bring some of these characters to life that you probably wouldn’t get to see otherwise in the parks,” said Andres Aranguibel, Disney Photo Imaging Creative Design.

When Hollywood Studios opened in 1989, the area was dedicated to the active animation studios located just behind it.

In 2015, it became Star Wars Launch Bay, but after the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Disney decided to reimagine the space.

The area will also feature the second indoor playground across Disney property, with both children and parents in mind.

“You can tell it is designed by parents because we have plenty of bench seating and we are in the air conditioning,” said Jackie Herrera, Walt Disney Imagineering senior producer.

The Magic of Disney Animation will open to the public on Sept. 14.
