ORLANDO, Fla. — Hundreds of pages of documents in the case of a fatal Orlando police-involved shooting were released by the State Attorney's Office on Monday.
The shooting outside the Vixen bar on Pine Street in August 2014 left an innocent bystander dead. Maria Godinez, 22, was inside the club when she was struck and killed by a bullet from the gun of Officer Eduardo Sanguino.
Also shot was 24-year-old Kody Roach, whose alleged actions prompted officers to open fire. Roach has been charged with Godinez's death.
The newly-released documents detail a hospital interview between investigators and Roach, where he described drinking and using drugs on the night of the shooting.
Roach told officers his night began at the Sapphire Room. He said he drank heavily before going to Vixen, and at one point used cocaine.
It was after being kicked out of Vixen that witnesses called 911 to report a "gun-wielding maniac."
In the interview, Roach remembered being approached by the officers on bicycles. He told investigators that he was often armed for protection and he didn't comply with officers' commands because he "didn't do anything" wrong.
Roach said he had no intentions to shoot any officers who confronted him that night. He went on to claim that he doesn't remember his behavior or being shot by officers.
Roach is facing a slew of charges, including second-degree murder in Godinez's death. He's being held at the Orange County Jail without bond.
