ORLANDO, Fla. — Several residents of the Lake Eola Heights Historic District neighborhood in downtown Orlando are furious over bright, yellow signs illegally posted on telephone poles.

The signs, which residents said went up over the past couple weeks, advertise a pressure washing business and are placed nearly 20 feet high, too high for residents to take them down.

“It just looks trashy,” said homeowner Carolyn Burleson-Webb, who filed a formal complaint with code enforcement. “It’s probably been at least 10 days now and they have done nothing about it.”

The city of Orlando confirmed that posting signs on public property is illegal. It said it’s investigating the complaints, but didn’t say why it hasn’t removed the signs.

“I looked up and I’m like, ‘What the heck is that?’” said Nicholas Olivieri, who found a sign posted outside his house. “You’re blatantly putting it where no one can take it down. It’s kind of in your face.”

Eyewitness News called the number listed on the sign, but it went to voicemail. Channel 9 Reporter Mike Manzoni left a message, but no one's returned his call.
