Dozens rescued from Daytona Beach hotel elevator

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Daytona Beach firefighters used quick thinking and two ladders to rescue 24 people from an elevator in a hotel Friday night.

They got the call reporting a stuck elevator at the Hilton Resort around 9:30 p.m.

Hotel staff told the responding firefighters that one of the people in the elevator was also complaining of a medical problem.

The firefighters wasted no time in entering the elevator shaft to find it was stuck between the lobby and third floor.

That’s when they removed the hatch and learned the elevator was carrying more than 20 people.

The firefighters quickly jumped into action, using one ladder for the occupants to get on top of the elevator, and another for them to climb to the third floor.

With the exception of one person who was treated for dizziness and weakness, there were no injuries reported.
