Driver accused of fleeing traffic stop before crashing into Sumter school bus full of children

Driver faces charges after car crashes into school bus carrying 19 children in Sumter County.

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — A driver is facing multiple charges after investigators say he crashed head-on into a Sumter County school bus carrying 19 students.

The bus was stopped at an intersection when the crash happened Tuesday morning. No students were injured.

According to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were conducting a traffic stop when Qahiem Williams allegedly tried to flee. Investigators say Williams then crashed into the school bus.

Deputies say Williams tried to run from the crash, but he was quickly caught.

Williams now faces charges including fleeing, leaving the scene of a crash and drug possession.

The investigation remains ongoing.
