VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Investigators are working to determine whether a driver was speeding when he lost control and plowed into a home in Deltona.
Investigators said it happened Friday morning on Smith Boulevard.
The homeowner was at home and said she thought she was in the middle of a natural disaster.
When a truck plowed into Pat Collier's Deltona home, she was half asleep thinking it was a sinkhole opening up underneath her.
"It sounded like an explosion. It sounded just like the floor and the house was just going down and everything wood. It just sounded like it was collapsing," Collier said.
Deputies are still investigating the crash.
They're trying to determine whether Jason Verrechio was speeding before he lost control.
There were tire tracks leading straight off of Fort Smith Boulevard and into Collier's home.
"What was said to me is he was airborne and he went into my -- he made this new entry," Collier said.
The truck crashed into the home with so much force it pushed the homeowner's SUV through the wall on the other side.
Officials said the home is structurally unstable after the crash.
The truck had to be cut open to free Verrechio. He went to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Collier, who doesn't know Verrechio, seemed concerned about him more than her home.
"This is brick and mortar and I'd really value life over that, so I just hope he's OK," Collier said.
