Driver hospitalized after crashing into Cocoa Mayor’s home

COCOA, Fla. — The driver of a pickup truck was taken to the hospital after crashing into Cocoa Mayor Mike Blake’s Home Wednesday.

Cocoa police and fire crews responded to the 200 block of Blake Ave. around 7 p.m. for reports of a crash into a building.

Photographs taken by witnesses show a green pickup truck sitting on the front porch of the home with the driver’s side door completely removed.

Police say Mayor Blake was not home at the time of the crash.

According to investigators, the truck driver was headed south on Blake Ave. crossing State Road 520 when it collided with another car that as traveling westbound on State Road 520, causing the truck to lose control and hit the home.

The truck driver was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. That driver of the second car wasn’t injured.

The investigation into who was at fault for the crash is ongoing.

Blake was first elected Mayor of Cocoa in 2004 and served two terms until 2012.

He was elected again in November 2020 and will serve until 2024 in his current term.
