Edgewater police release video after man dies after pointing gun at officers

EDGEWATER, Fla. — The Edgewater Police Department responded to an officer-involved shooting, police said.

11 p.m. Update:

In a social media post, the department said the shooter had died from his injuries, and police officers were not injured in the attack.

EPD responded to 423 North Riverside Drive on Friday when two people reported a distraught suicidal man, Mark Wadsworth, to dispatch.

According to a news release, the homeowner was one of the people to call the police, and while Wadsworth did not live at the house, he did know the owner.

When two Edgewater police officers approached Wadsworth in the backyard, he pulled out a gun from his waistband and pointed it at them. Two officers fired their guns in defense.

Despite police officers giving aid to the man, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said both officers were put on administrative leave following the incident.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will continue to investigate the shooting.

Police said the shooting was in the 400 block of North Riverside Drive, and people are asked to avoid the area.

Officials said there is no danger to the public.
