ORLANDO, Fla. — Around 300,000 people are expected in Orlando this weekend for the Electric Daisy Carnival.

Law enforcement officers have established a special event zone and closed several roads around the venue, which may affect morning commutes.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office set up the special event zone at 6 p.m. Thursday.

The measure is intended to manage heavy event traffic and crack down on unauthorized parties seeking to benefit from the festival crowds.

The special event zone covers three major roadways in the area.

It includes West Colonial Drive from Tampa Avenue to Hiawassee Road, John Young Parkway from State Road 408 to W.D. Judge Road and Old Winter Garden Road from John Young Parkway to Ferguson Drive.

Under state law, traffic rules inside the special event zone apply to all drivers passing through, not just festival attendees.

Fines for any traffic citation, including speeding or running a red light, are doubled within the zone.

Law enforcement officers also have the authority to tow vehicles and impound them for up to three days.

Closer to Camping World Stadium, city officials are closing several streets starting at 8 a.m. each day to manage festival movement around the facility.

Some street closures near the stadium may remain in place through next weekend for the Vans Warped Tour.
