NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — A construction worker was injured Thursday afternoon after a partial structural collapse at a home under construction in New Smyrna Beach, according to fire officials.
Emergency crews responded around 3:18 p.m. to the 400 block of Junonia Boulevard in Venetian Bay following reports of a structural collapse.
When firefighters arrived, they found that multiple roof trusses had collapsed into the home’s interior walls, trapping one person beneath the debris.
Officials said bystanders began removing wood beams from the victim before crews arrived. New Smyrna Beach Fire Department personnel then took over rescue efforts and successfully extricated the worker.
The patient was transported as a trauma alert to a hospital for treatment.
Volusia County Fire Rescue, Port Orange Fire Rescue, and Volusia County Emergency Medical Services also assisted at the scene.
Authorities have not released information about the worker’s condition or the cause of the collapse.
