1 arrested following standoff at Orange County apartment

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A call of shots fired led to a standoff between Orange County Deputies and an armed stabbing suspect Sunday morning.

The Sheriff’s Office began receiving calls about shots fired at the Colonial point Apartment Complex on Econ Circle just after 3 a.m. Sunday.

Deputies said at the scene they received additional calls of a stabbing at the location with a suspect who was armed with a gun.

The stabbing victim said he was in the apartment with his girlfriend when 23-year-old Jabez Aguilar, his roommate, cut him on the hand with a knife and pointed a gun at him, refusing to allow him to leave the apartment.

The victim said Aguilar shot multiple rounds from the gun into the air outside the apartment.

The victim and his girlfriend were able to leave the apartment and call 911.

Orange County deputies set up a perimeter and began attempting to make contact with Aguilar and any other people inside, but received no response.

As a precaution, several apartments were evacuated and traffic on Econ Drive was blocked in both directions.

After more than seven hours, three people exited the apartment peacefully just as a SWAT team was preparing to enter.

All three, including Aguilar, were detained.

After questionoing, Aguilar was charaged with aggravated battery with a weapon, false imprisonment with a weapon and a mask and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
