ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The principal of Evans High School in Pine Hills has announced that he is leaving his position to take a job for a school district in California.
David Christiansen will leave the high school June 30, he told school board members in an email.
In the email he announced that he accepted a position as Associate Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction for the Fresno, California School District.
Christiansen has been the principal at Evans High School for 5 years. He helped bring Evans to a “C” standing from an “F”, a grade that the struggling school held for years.
“Honestly, I’m going to miss him,” student Janae Smith said. “I think he should stay but if that’s a decision he has to make than maybe it’s best.”
Christiansen also oversaw the construction and grand opening of the new Evans High School campus.
Students told WFTV he has helped bring important new resources to the school.
“He's emphasized a lot more on the technology part, so now we have a media team. We're about to become a magnet school for technology,” student Luis Rodriguez said.
In the email, Christiansen explained he is leaving for California because he can do the same work on a larger scale. Evans High School has roughly 2,000 students, while there are 82,000 students in the Fresno district.
Christiansen was not immediately available for comment.
