FDLE: State financial detective leaked confidential input to suspect in criminal case

CENTRAL FLORIDA — The Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrested a state financial investigator, WFTV learned on Thursday.

Officials said Jordan Cox, 26, was a detective for the Department of Financial Services Division of Insurance Fraud.

FDLE said it received information from the Division of Insurance Fraud on March 28, that Cox had leaked confidential information to a suspect in an insurance fraud investigation.

After an intensive investigation, FDLE agents said they discovered that Cox sent a letter to the suspect, tipping off the person about the investigation.

Since metered stamps have a serial number attached, the FDLE was able to track the serial number back to Cox's office at the Department of Financial Services.

"[We] went to do the arrest, search the home and found the letter. And it was anonymous, no return address, no name. It was handwritten," said Susie Murphy of the FDLE.

Cox was charged with one count of disclosure of confidential criminal justice information, which is a third-degree felony.

WFTV was there when Cox's bonded out of jail on Thursday.

"Jordan, do you want to tell us what happened?" WFTV reporter Daralene Jones asked.

"Not at all," Cox replied as he chuckled.

"If it isn't true, just tell us," Jones said.

"No comment," Cox said.

"Is it a family member you were trying to help? A friend?" asked Jones.

"No comment," he replied.

Cox has been a detective with the state since he graduated from Florida State University in 2008, with a degree in criminal justice and criminology.

Records show he has worked 108 insurance fraud cases since then.

Officials said the case will be prosecuted by the Office of the State Attorney, 9th Judicial Circuit.

Cox will face a judge on Friday.
