DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A 7-year-old girl was run over by a pick-up truck Sunday afternoon as she ran from a Daytona Beach hotel toward the ocean, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Jenna McQueene was seriously injured shortly before 5 p.m. when she ran and tripped in front of a Dodge pick-up truck driven by 28-year-old Heath Watkins of Altamonte Springs, said Sgt. Kim Montes, an FHP spokeswoman.
Watkins was driving 5 MPH in the northbound beach lane near North Atlantic Avenue at the time of the crash.
Montes said Watkins didn’t see McQueene run in front of the truck and he didn’t realize he ran over her until other motorists stopped him.
McQueene was brought to Halifax Regional Medical Center by ambulance.
Watkins will not face charges, Montes said.
