LAKE COUNTY, Fla — Parts of an old citrus packing plant that burned down last weekend didn’t have any electricity, Channel 9 has learned.
State investigators were back at the Lake County Citrus Sales packing plant in Leesburg on Tuesday to find out how the two-alarm fire started.
Fire marshals said there’s no time frame on when they’ll know what started the fire.
Some parts of the property had no power, but an office on the property was still connected.
Linemen worked to replace the burned cables on Tuesday, but it’s unclear if electricity contributed to the fire.
The property owner said the buildings were being taken down slowly before the fire. A second company, Lake Sumter Fuel, still operates on the property.
Neighbors said they’ve long considered the property an eyesore.
Fire marshals said they couldn’t make an educated guess on the fire’s cause and there’s no word on when the burned remains will be removed.
