MARION COUNTY, Fla. — A trailer carrying hay caught fire Friday morning, temporarily shutting down a portion of East Highway 40 in Marion County, according to Marion County Fire Rescue.
Fire crews were called to the 22400 block of East Highway 40 at about 7:14 a.m. after receiving reports of a trailer fire.
Firefighters arrived around 7:29 a.m. and found 15 to 20 large rolls of hay fully engulfed in flames.
Highway 40 was shut down while crews were working at the scene.
Additional personnel from Salt Springs Station and South Forest Station responded to assist, along with a department skid steer used to move the hay bales.
The roadway has since reopened, although firefighters remained on scene to make sure the area was safe.
Marion County Fire Rescue said no injuries had been reported.
Drivers in the area are urged to use caution as crews continue working along East Highway 40.
