ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — “No fishing” signs have been posted in parts of Walt Disney World following an alligator attack on June 14 in which a 2-year-old was snatched and killed.
According to sources at Disney, “no fishing signs’ have been posted at the Fort Wilderness campground, the Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa and the Old Key West Resort. Netting has been added to rope lines and fences near the Seven Seas Lagoon. It applies to private fishing. Fishing is still allowed if it's part of an excursion.
Lane Graves, 2, and his family were wading in the shorelines of Seven Seas Lagoon on June 14 when an alligator snatched the child and killed him.
Since then, Disney has added a series of safety measures at its beach resorts.
Disney added gator warning signs at its beaches. “No swimming” signs were already posted and Disney had lifeguards on duty at some of its resorts. Beaches were also temporarily closed.
Disney also added fences around its beaches after the child’s death.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission captured and killed six alligators it said could have been connected to the Lane’s death.
