FLAGLER COUNT, Fla. — Drivers can expect more deputies on Flagler County roads as thousands of motorcyclists travel through the region for the 34th annual Biketoberfest.
The four-day motorcycle event runs from Thursday, Oct. 15, through Sunday, Oct. 18, and is expected to attract more than 100,000 visitors to the Daytona Beach area.
Although Flagler County is not hosting any official Biketoberfest events, the sheriff’s office expects increased motorcycle traffic and more activity at local bars, restaurants and hotels.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office said its Traffic Enforcement Unit will focus on high-crash locations while looking for speeding and aggressive driving. Dedicated DUI patrols will also operate throughout the county.
“We want to make sure that everyone who is in Flagler County for Biketoberfest can take part in the festivities safely, but we also need to keep our residents who are not bikers safe as well,” Sheriff Rick Staly said.
Staly urged drivers to avoid distractions, never drive impaired and look twice for motorcycles before changing lanes or entering an intersection.
Anyone who observes suspicious activity can contact the Flagler County Emergency Communications Center at 386-313-4911. Call 911 during an emergency.
