FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. — Flagler County 911 dispatchers now have a new tool to help callers locate nearby automated external defibrillators during cardiac emergencies.
Emergency Communications recently added an integration between its RapidSOS call-handling platform and PulsePoint’s National Emergency AED + Resource Registry, known as the NEAR Registry.
The system allows dispatchers to see registered AEDs on a map during nearby cardiac-related 911 calls. That could help telecommunicators direct bystanders to an AED before first responders arrive.
County officials are urging businesses, schools, government facilities and residents with AEDs to register them. Registered devices will appear on the public AED map and may be visible to 911 dispatchers during emergencies.
Registration is free through the NEAR Registry app or online at AED.new. Users can also register other emergency supplies, including naloxone, epinephrine and bleeding-control kits.
