ORLANDO, Fla. — Recent rains have caused severe flooding on Lake George, causing damage to boat docks and taking out most backyards in the area.
Residents said it’s the first time in 10 years people have dealt with flooding of this magnitude.
“I lived near here when the hurricanes hit and that was the last time the water was over the docks, in 2004,” said homeowner Jon Conboy.
Sidewalks to Lake George Elementary are also flooding, causing children to walk in the streets to get to school.
The lake level is supposed to be 94.5 feet above sea level, but now it’s 99.2 feet.
The issue isn’t just the rain, but also a clog in a pipe miles away from the lake.
County workers said the clog was minor and it was flushed last week. Residents still worry with more rain on the way the problem will likely get worse before it gets better.
“I haven’t notices improvement in the lake level in the last week since they fixed it,” said Conboy.
County officials said the water has gone down a tenth of a foot, but with more rain expected throughout the day Tuesday and the rest of the week, tit won’t last long.
