ORLANDO, Fla. — Young artists across Florida are being invited to dive into the state’s freshwater and saltwater ecosystems through the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s annual Fish Art Contest.
Students can submit entries through Feb. 28, 2027. Students, parents, and teachers can find the list of eligible species, educational resources, entry requirements, and the online submission form here.
Participants must choose a native Florida fish from the FWC’s approved species list, research the animal and create an original, handmade two-dimensional piece of artwork. Digital artwork is not allowed.
Students in fourth grade and above must also submit a one-page creative-writing piece based on what they learned about their selected fish.
The contest includes five grade divisions:
Kindergarten
First through third grade
Fourth through sixth grade
Seventh through ninth grade
10th through 12th grade
First-place winners and runners-up will be recognized in both freshwater and saltwater categories within each age division, according to the FWC.
The agency says the competition is designed to help students learn more about Florida’s aquatic wildlife while encouraging conservation of the ecosystems that support native fish.
