ORLANDO, Fla. — Gov. Ron DeSantis held a press conference today to detail ongoing revitalization efforts along Florida’s Turnpike.
The initiative highlights exciting upgrades like improved infrastructure, enhanced safety features, and measures to ease traffic congestion across the turnpike system.
The state’s efforts are geared toward expanding highway capacity, upgrading safety technology, and modernizing traveler rest areas, making journeys smoother and more comfortable for everyone.
The projects are designed to better handle increasing traffic and make freight movement smoother across the region.
As part of the highway expansion efforts, state crews are widening the Turnpike Extension, also designated as S.R. 821, to 10 lanes in South Florida to manage rising traffic volumes.
Safety and technology projects include installing wrong-way vehicle detection systems and broader corridor safety enhancements. Comprehensive lighting upgrades are also underway across Broward, Palm Beach and Polk counties.
Traveler rest points along the route are being updated as part of major reconstruction projects. Multimillion-dollar renovations are underway at both the West Palm Beach Service Plaza and the Snapper Creek Service Plaza.
Regional interchange improvements are also included in the state’s plan. Connecting junctions at U.S. Route 27 and U.S. Route 301 are being redesigned and reconstructed to realign regional freight traffic, support logistics and improve local municipal traffic flow.
