ORLANDO, Fla. — Four Florida metropolitan areas are among the nation’s fastest-rising coding hubs, according to a new study.
Coddy Tech analyzed the 75 largest U.S. metros to identify where coding is most established and where interest and employment are growing fastest.
Jacksonville, Cape Coral, North Port and Tampa all ranked among the country’s 10 fastest-rising coding metros. Cape Coral placed fifth, while North Port ranked ninth.
The study found nine of the 10 fastest-rising markets are in the Sun Belt.
Albuquerque, New Mexico, topped the momentum ranking, followed by San Antonio and Houston. San Antonio also recorded the fastest growth in software developer jobs, increasing 73% since 2022.
Researchers based the momentum rankings on software developer job growth, changes in coding-related online searches and hackathon growth.
The study also ranked the country’s most established coding markets using coding search interest, GitHub developer density, software developer concentration, boot camp demand and hackathon activity.
Austin earned the highest overall score, followed by San Jose and Seattle. Austin and San Jose finished more than 20 points ahead of every other metro analyzed.
The data was adjusted for population to measure the concentration of coding activity rather than the size of each metro. Coddy Tech noted that coding interest is associated with a metro but is not necessarily caused by conditions in that area.
Researchers also cautioned that GitHub users enter their own locations, which can lead to some overcounting or undercounting.
