PALM COAST, Fla. — Four rehabilitated juvenile green sea turtles are making their way back to the Atlantic Ocean after months of rehabilitation and veterinary care.
Biologists with The Florida Aquarium prepared the turtles for their cross-state journey Tuesday morning from the Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Center in Apollo Beach to their release near Palm Coast.
Before leaving, staff gave each turtle a final check-up, removed identification bands from their flippers and applied ointment to keep their eyes lubricated during the drive.
One turtle, Dark Blue Yellow, was found near Daytona Beach in March with a severe gash on the underside of its shell.
The other three turtles were rescued from Florida’s east coast after being cold-stunned.
All four were determined to be healthy and ready to return to the wild.
