Suspected biker gang shooting near Leesburg Bikefest

NAPLES, Fla. — The fourth outstanding suspect in an April biker gang shooting in Leesburg is behind bars, according to the Collier County Sheriff's Office.

Gregory Alan Umphress, 32, was arrested Saturday in East Naples on a Lake County warrant in connection with the shooting.

David Donovan, 41, died and Mark Edward Knotts, 48, was shot three times, but survived the shooting April 29 at Circle K at 3309 W. Main St. in Leesburg, police said. Knotts was wearing a bulletproof vest the night of the shooting.

The shootout involved two biker gangs, the Kingsmen and the Outlaws. Sources told Eyewitness News the shooting was because the Outlaws were trying to force other groups to join their club.

Donovan and two other Kingsmen went to the Circle K to get buy some cigarettes, a police report said. They were confronted by a group of Outlaws who ordered the Kingsmen to surrender their riding jackets, vests and insignia or the Outlaws would take it from them, police said.

The Kingsmen said they were fearful and felt they had little choice but to comply. They went outside, where the Outlaws forced Donovan to his knees by knifepoint, police said.

When Donovan refused again to turn over his jacket, Knotts ordered the Outlaws to shoot Donovan, police said.

Jesus Alberton Marrero, 35, and Knotts were arrested in May. Miguel Angel Torres, 37, of Rockledge, was arrested shortly in June.

Umphress was the final suspect being sought in connection with the shooting.
