Free food drive scheduled for August 29 at Bithlo Community Center

The drive-through event begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, and will continue while supplies last

BITHLO, Fla. — A free food distribution will be held later this month to help hundreds of Central Florida families facing food insecurity.

Orange County District 5 Commissioner and Vice Mayor Kelly Martinez Semrad will host the drive-through event beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Bithlo Community Center.

Organizers hope to distribute nutritious food to more than 300 families. Volunteers can register online and should arrive by 8:30 a.m.

The distribution will continue while supplies last. The Bithlo Community Center is located at 18501 Washington Ave.

“Many residents — both housed and unhoused — rely on community-based initiatives like this one for survival and stability,” Semrad said.

The event is being organized with support from Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, Orange County Public Schools, Orange County Government and the Renacer Foundation.

Students and other participants may receive community-service hours for volunteering.
