BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — If you’re planning to head to the beach over the Labor Day holiday weekend, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is reminding beachgoers that sea turtle nesting season is still underway.
FWC officials are asking visitors to give sea turtle nests plenty of space and stay at least 50 feet away from marked nesting areas.
Those who live in beachfront homes or are staying at a beachfront hotel are also encouraged to do their part after dark.
FWC recommends closing curtains and turning off outside lights, which can disorient nesting sea turtles and hatchlings.
Beachgoers should also make sure to clean up before leaving and take all trash and personal items with them.
