SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — A prodigious amount of mosquitoes in Seminole County has caused a miserable summer for many residents.

“You have to go in. You can’t be outside,” resident Jan Gonzalez said. “I have to keep the door closed (and) make sure the screens are closed.”

The mosquitoes in Gonzalez’s neighborhood have gotten out of control and she said it’s not just a problem after dark anymore.

“Now we see them all day long,” she said.

The number of mosquitoes in the county has skyrocketed with traps going from capturing hundreds in May to more than 42,000 in July, officials said.

To help deal with the situation, the county is taking to the skies to spray for the mosquitoes.

The hope is the spray will clear out the mosquitoes in areas where they breed and knock down the overall number.

Seminole County officials said the spraying would not pose any undue danger to citizens.

If that is the case, Gonzalez said they needed to get started.
