ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Gov. Ron DeSantis has suspended Palm Beach County Clerk of Courts and Comptroller Michael Caruso following his arrest on five felony charges connected to the alleged sexual abuse of a child younger than 12.

Caruso, a former state representative, was arrested Tuesday after an investigation involving the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and local law enforcement agencies, Attorney General James Uthmeier said.

According to the arrest affidavit, investigators allege Caruso abused the child on multiple occasions, including during a family cruise. He faces charges that include kidnapping and lewd or lascivious molestation.

Uthmeier said the investigation remains ongoing and that additional information will be released when appropriate.
