Grandma describes 3-year-old as 'lifeless' after mom's boyfriend allegedly beat him

ORLANDO, Fla. — A heartbroken grandmother described the terrifying moments after her 3-year-old grandson, who is now in critical condition at a hospital, was dropped off at her house after allegedly being beaten by his mother's boyfriend.

The 3-year-old boy, T-Jon, is still fighting for his life at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children.

Titusville police say the boy was beaten by his mother's boyfriend.

Detectives served a search warrant on the couple's apartment Wednesday, looking for what may have been used to cause such serious injuries.

Breanna Love and Joshua Carter are still being held at the Brevard County Jail on $500,000 and $1 million bond, respectively.

Titusville detectives pulled out items inside the apartment Love and Carter share.

WFTV was told detectives were looking for a table and some type of metal kitchen utensil Carter used when he admitted to beating T-Jon.

WFTV's Renee Stoll talked to the boy's grandmother, who called 911.

Love's mother, who did not want to be identified, described how T-Jon was on Monday when Carter brought him over.

"I couldn't even hold him, hardly. He was just that limp and wouldn't do anything," she said.

"Like lifeless?" Stoll asked.

"Lifeless," replied the grandmother.

She said T-Jon is still fighting for his life.

She said doctors think the 3-year-old suffered a stroke and was supposed to undergo surgery on Wednesday, but didn't have it.

"He had internal bleeding and broken ribs, and a broken pelvis," the grandmother said.

She showed WFTV a picture of T-Jon when he was a newborn.

Carter told detectives he hit the boy on his back, harder than anticipated, on Saturday night.

But neither Love nor Carter got medical help for the boy until Monday, according to police.

"I put the ice on his face and tried to bring him around, and that didn't happen. And I turned him over to put some ice on his back, and that's when I saw the bruise on his back and I asked him, I say, 'What happened to him?' He told me, 'I don't know what you're talking about,'" said the grandmother.

She told WFTV she didn't like her daughter being with Carter, and that T-Jon didn't like him either, but she never had reason to believe he would hurt the boy.

"I really want to kill him, but I know I can't touch him," she said.

She also said T-Jon looked like he had a busted lip and bruises around his neck.
