Gunman sought after shooting near UCF

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A gunman is at large after shooting a man Tuesday night inside his apartment near the University of Central Florida, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

The 20-year-old man was shot shortly before 9:45 p.m. at the Campus Crossings at College Station apartment complex on Renaissance Court, off North Alafaya Trail, the Sheriff's Office said.

The gunman entered the man's apartment bedroom, demanded money from him and shot the man before fleeing, deputies said.

"When I came home around midnight, the cops were still here, [the] scene over there, not even 100 feet from my door," UCF student Doug Sessions said. "I had no idea what had happened."

A resident who asked to not be identified said she never opens the door for anyone she doesn't know.

"We've had tons of people knock on our doors before," she said. "We don't know who they are or why they're knocking on our door, but we keep it closed."

"Although deemed an isolated incident by the Sheriff’s office, management has heightened safety measures in place including an increased presence from a courtesy officer," the apartment complex's management said in a statement. "The wellbeing of our residents is our top priority and any action that threatens their security will not be tolerated.”
