Commissioners will hear residents’ thoughts on a proposed ordinance that would require landlords to give tenants at least 60 days written notice for rent increases that are greater than 5% or if they plan to terminate a lease.

The measure is expected to pass on Tuesday.

Some local renters like Sofia Ortiz say relief is desperately needed.

“I’m $17 an hour as a housekeeper and I can’t afford it anymore,” Ortiz told WFTV.

Orange County commissioners also plan to discuss a rent capping measure that could end up on the November ballot.

While no vote is expected on it Tuesday, a decision to include it on the November ballot is necessary by August.
