‘He just shot up the church, follow him,' church shooting witness says

SUTHERLAND SPRINGS, Fla. — A Texan who chased after an accused gunman who killed 26 people inside a Texas church said he didn’t think twice about what he was doing.

Johnnie Langendorff said he was in his truck outside the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs on Sunday when gunman Devin Patrick Kelley, 26, of New Braunfels, was coming out of the church.

Langendorff said Kelley and a neighbor of the church were shooting at one another when Kelley got into his car and drove away.

During an interview with "Good Morning America," Langendorff said the neighbor jumped into his truck and said, "He (Kelley) just shot up the church. Follow him." Langendorff said, "That's enough for me to do anything."

Langendorff said he chased after Kelley going anywhere from 90 to 95 mph, but that the neighbor never shot at Kelley during the chase.

“It was an act now, ask questions later kind of deal. It wasn’t something I needed to freak out about,” Langendorff said when he was asked how he stayed so calm.

Langendorff said he was on the phone with 911 giving them his location when Kelley crashed and never got out of the vehicle. Preliminary results show Kelley died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, investigators said.
