Historic ballpark gains modern training center for athletes

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The AdventHealth Training Center opened Thursday at the historic Jackie Robinson Ballpark, introducing a new medical and performance facility for professional athletes in Daytona Beach.

Community leaders and Major League Baseball representatives joined the Daytona Tortugas and AdventHealth to celebrate the completion of the 30,000-square-foot building.

The new training center is intended to provide centralized medical support and recovery services for the Daytona Tortugas, the minor league affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. The project is part of a larger initiative to modernize the century-old stadium while preserving its history as the site where Robinson broke the professional baseball color barrier in 1946.

The two-story, 30,000-square-foot facility features enhanced weight rooms, locker rooms and specialized athletic training areas.

The building was designed to centralize performance, recovery and medical care for players in a single location at the waterfront stadium. AdventHealth Medical Group physicians serve as team doctors for the Daytona Tortugas as part of a partnership established in 2024.

Lorenzo Brown, CEO of AdventHealth’s Atlantic Coastal Region, said the project extends beyond professional sports. “This facility represents a deeper investment in the Daytona Tortugas, in this ballpark and in the neighbors who call this area home,” Brown said. “It’s about giving athletes what they need to stay healthy and compete at their highest level. But the impact doesn’t stop with the players; it strengthens the whole community.”
