Man accused of shooting at wife outside Melbourne hospital found in Palm Bay

MELBOURNE, Fla. — A man who Melbourne police said shot at his wife outside a hospital Monday night has been found.

Gavin Chung, 49, was caught Tuesday in Palm Bay by the Brevard County Sheriff's Game Over Task Force, police said.

Chung was taken into custody at a relative's home on District Street, police said. He was taken to the Brevard County Jail.

Police said Chung approached his wife as she sat in her car in the parking lot of Holmes Regional Medical Center on Hickory Street.

Investigators said Chung fired a shot, just missing his wife's head. The bullet hit a cellphone that she had in her hand, police said. Authorities said Chung then drove away.

The woman left the area in her car and flagged down an ambulance. She stayed with the ambulance crew until officers arrived, police said. The woman was not injured.

Police said Chung and his wife argued in their home late Sunday night. They said Chung forced his wife into the bathroom at gunpoint and threatened to kill her.

According to investigators, the woman left home Monday and went to the hospital to meet a family member.

They said she and the family member planned to drive to the Palm Bay Police Department to report the incident involving Chung.

Investigators said Chung showed up at the hospital before his wife could meet the family member.

Chung was charged with attempted murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and shooting into an occupied conveyance.

He is also charged with false imprisonment, along with domestic violence charges.

The Brevard County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Palm Bay Police Department.
