NEW SMYRNA, Fla. — A home invasion in New Smyrna Beach sent one resident to the hospital early Friday morning, according to authorities.
Police were called to a home on Downing Street around 2:30 a.m. after a home invasion was reported.
Two black men, one wearing a mask and holding a gun, forced their way into the home of Ian and Joshua Lees, according to police.
During a struggle, Lees was pistol whipped on the head, leaving him with a laceration above his right eye, but one suspect had his mask removed during the fight, according to authorities.
Both suspects fled the home with an undisclosed amount of money while firing shots back toward the home, but none of the victims were hit, police said.
An anonymous caller gave police a tip that the men were hiding in a residence on Washington Street, and a perimeter was set up around the home, authorities said.
After speaking to the homeowner, police found one of the men inside the home, and one of the victims positively identified him, according to police.
One juvenile suspect was arrested, but police are still trying to identify the second man.
Lees was taken by EVAC to Bert Fish Medical Center for further medical attention, according to authorities.
