Homeowner fends off gun-wielding burglar with baseball bat, police say

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando police say a would-be burglar was chased from a home by the resident with a baseball bat.

The attempted burglary was reported just after 1 a.m. Wednesday in the 4800 block of Lake Ridge Road, the Orlando Police Department said.

The burglar kicked in the home’s front door, but its chain lock held and he couldn’t get past it, police said.

When he reached through the crack to unhook the chain, the home’s occupant hit the burglar's hand with a baseball bat, investigators said.

The homeowner told police the armed burglar fired five shots into the front door and fled on foot.

No one inside the home was injured.

A motive for the attempted break-in had not been determined.
