Shop second-hand first
Clark recommends checking Facebook Marketplace before buying new. You’ll find everything from mini fridges to desks at a fraction of the retail price.
Start early if your student is a senior
If your student is graduating this year, consider spreading out purchases over the coming months rather than buying everything at once.
Look around your house
Before heading to the store, take inventory of what you already own. You may have more than you think.
Check with the college
Clark mentions that many campuses have donation programs where departing students leave items for new students. Check if your school offers this.
Focus on function over flash
A perfectly styled dorm room might look great on social media, but Clark reminds families that a dorm room’s real purpose is to provide a place to sleep and study.
